Can’t make it up to Scotland to celebrate? Get cosy in the Cotswolds. This 25 January marks Burns Night, but if you can’t make it north of the border to raise a toast to Scottish poet Robert Burns, find a suitable spot for some Scottish fare closer to home.
In the Cotswolds village of Broadway, converted 13th century former coaching inn The Lygon Arms is gearing up to honour Scotland’s literary hero with a traditional Burns Night supper. The evening will start with an Ardbeg cocktail masterclass with Scottish whisky authority Michael Pearson and a four-course whisky paired menu devised by Head Chef, Ales Maurer.
The starter on the night will be haggis, pickled red cabbage and a scotch laced sauce following the ‘Address to Haggis’. The main course will be Aberdeen Angus beef fillet alongside slow cooked ox cheek, wild mushrooms and (of course) neeps and tatties. Dessert will be a twist on cranachan, the oat-based dessert, here with bitter Valhrona dark chocolate mousse, blood orange sorbet and honey.
And if you’ve still got room for the cheese course, you’ll enjoy Scottish Dunsyre Blue cheese, hailing from the Clyde Valley, a pear jelly, rye crackers and walnuts.
