In an elegant collaboration between Cliveden, the iconic British country house hotel, and Dominique Demarville, the cellar master of Cave of Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin, guests who adore fine food and exquisite drink will be treated to a very special event. The classy affair will celebrate the launch of the 2008 vintage of La Grande Dame, a wine steeped in both history and innovation. Le Grande Dame is named after Barbe-Nicole Clicquot Ponsardin, otherwise known as The Grande Dame after she took over her late husband’s business in 1805. Taking the helm and never looking back, Barbe-Nicole invented the riddling technique and at the time was the only woman to ever hold such an important role in the industry. It’s no wonder, after turning the business into what it is now, one of the most internationally loved and celebrated champagne brands in the world, the launch of the 2008 vintage of Le Grande Dame pays homage to this inspiring woman.
Taking place in the French Dining Room of Cliveden House in Taplow, the exclusive one-off event will begin with a drinks reception, followed by a decadent four-course supper paired with champagnes, curated and selected by the experts. The menu features dishes such as wild halibut, locally-sourced chicken, a macadamia nut dessert and truffled cheese, each with a tasting of different champagnes ranging from 1989 to the 2008 vintage libation of the evening.
To top it off, guests will be (highly exclusively) in the presence of Dominique Demarville, who will be attending this event and only this event in the UK this year. Demarville has been known as a respectable champagne expert since studying oenology and viticulture at both the University of Burgundy in Dijon and the Lycée Viticole de la Champagne in Avize.
Simply don your fanciest frock and head to Cliveden House for this unique evening of delicious food, champagne and conversation with the champagne expert himself.
