Sandpolo is one of the most exciting equestrian events in the South Coast of England’s cultural calendar. Blocking out the first weekend of July, polo lovers flock to the illustrious beaches of Dorset’s Sandbanks for two days of polo, parties and beach rugby, accompanied by delicious food and drink. The British Beach Polo Championships, held at Sandbanks, is the largest beach polo event in the world and attracts thousands of people, especially when the weather is forecasting sun. If sipping on chilled champagne whilst admiring the polo ponies galloping joyously on the sand and looking out onto the glisteningly blue English Channel sounds like an ideal way to spend a summer weekend to you, Sandpolo 2019 is a must-book event.
Just four days before opening day, the Sandpolo temporary structure on Sandbanks beach is built. The main feature is the arena, where the competitions take place, accompanied by marquees and a bar and kitchen to name just a few of the event’s amenities. During the days, mix and mingle with the ponies and professional polo players and enjoy the scenery as a spectator, before joining their legendary beach parties in the evenings. At 7pm, the sports of the day are wrapped up as DJs and bands take centre stage for celebrations and mingling amongst the players, visitors and various celebrities who come to Sandpolo. Their Food and Drink Village includes a range of street (beach) foods to be enjoyed whilst watching the polo or taking a stroll along the beach, or, alternatively, treat yourself to a Hospitality and VIP package and join its own exclusive marquee, enjoy a champagne reception, afternoon tea, reserve a table as your base for the day, be on the list for the VIP after party and more.
The ongoings at Sandpolo also include beach rugby, a charity match and fashion shows to pass the time whilst the beach is transformed from the polo hub to the evening beach party set up.
